Rock Crawler D90

The D90 Rock Crawler was Nathan Hindman and Pangaea Expeditions' first forray into building a hard core 4x4 vehicle. This vehicle in it's final form was an extremely capable vehicle. It's combination of extreme articulating suspension (an RTI score of nearly 1300), 35" Super Swamper tires and front and rear ARB air lockers, meant it could conquer nearly any four wheeling trail.

Project Origins

In 1998, Nathan was living in Dallas, Texas. Land Rover has just discontinued the sale of the Defender line up in North America, and these iconic vehicles were increasingly hard to find. Once he saw an AA Yellow Defender 90, his mind was made up. He began searching across the US for a dealership that had a yellow 90 in stock. He found one for sale, a 1994, at the Land Rover Denver East dealership. A quick phone call and the purchase was arranged, sight unseen.

That weekend, he was on a plane to Denver to pick the vehicle up and drive it back to Texas. In a bit of irony, less than a year later, Nathan was to move up to Colorado, and the Denver East dealership became his closest local dealership.

At the time of purchase, the plan was to simply install a front winch bumper and that was all. However, over the course of the next three years, the vehicle received a series of modifications, making it an exceedingly capable vehicle.

Unfortunately, these modifications compromised the vehicle's overland capabilities, and the vehicle was replaced just prior to our La Ruta Maya 2001 Expedition with the Camel Project.
